Camille
Driven by the soul of the swing jazz or the groove of the rhythm’ n’ blues music, Camille is having the best time on the floor grooving with rhythms and grounded laziness. She infuses her dancing inspired by the continuum of jazz, from its history to the present. Her journey into Lindy hop and solo jazz began with discovering old clips, leading to an exploration of these African American jazz dances. Today, she shares this art form by teaching, performing, and social dancing. Camille invites you to discover the art of conversation, not only with the music and partner, but also with yourself.
Maxime
When Jazz is hitting those high notes, Maxime improvises like a saxophone from the bebop era, using the freedom of spins, slides & splits. He is dancing in Brussels with The Old Soulz and The Jazz Maniacs, two performance groups inspired by Afro-American dances such as Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz. While digging into old clips to find flash moves, he discovered the Hoofers, tap dancers from the jazz era like Jimmy Slyde, the Nicholas Brothers, and more ... and started to learn some rhythmical variations to spice up his solo jazz. He will share his passion with good vibes in class during the day, or at night in a jam.
Jill
Jill started dancing when she was a child. She is trained in several disciplines, and now shares her time between her passion for dancing, her work as a contemporary dance and theater producer, a massage therapist and a yoga instructor.
Specifically inspired by the authentic vernacular dancing showed in old movies and the african roots of the dance, Jill is ceaselessly in search for a sense of freedom within the dance. She finds her happiness on the dancefloor in fast athletic lindy hop, a rythmical mambo, or a slow dragging blues, and have at heart to stay true to the legacy of the era and the originators of the dances as best she can. In class, her goal is to create a joyful yet challenging and encouraging experience for everyone, allowing each dancer to develop their own individuality in their dancing.
Alex
Alex is Benelux multiple-time vice champion in breaking and has taught various street styles since 2006. In 2013, McCormack discovered old clips such as Hellzapoppin and the Spirit Moves and set himself on the journey to emulate the “oldstyle” in black american Jazz and Lindy Hop. Most of his inspiration comes from studying the Greats or discussing directly with elders. His motto is “Master the foundation to understand the dance and personalise to contribute to it”. He will jam for hours into the early morning to uptempo Bebop Swing, shaky Mambo and slow Blues. Back in Brussels, he trains with his group, the Old Soulz on a regular basis.
From Korea, Suhhee Song has fully immersed herself in authentic jazz dance with her journey to Europe. On the dance floor, Suhhee moves with the playfulness of a child, energy of a bouncy ball, and the joy of fireworks. She loves to connect deeper to the music and rhythms, leading her to do projects such as joint musicality workshops with musicians in Brussels. She dives deeply into the history and culture of jazz creating @women.in.jazz.archive, exploring ways to connect its roots with her unique artistic spirit. Her adventures have driven her to collaborate with artists across Europe, and awards from international events such as Paris Jazz Roots and Jumpin’ at Istanbul.
