Groove into your Saturday afternoon! In this workshop, we will dig into the foundations of the 1930’s and 1940’s Solo Jazz.
This workshop is suitable both for absolute beginners, who would like to get a first glimpse of Vintage Jazz dancing, and more experienced dancers, who would like to work on their basics, connection with the music, groove and solo improvisation.
This workshop is also a great preparation for you if you wish to join our Solo Jazz Beginner Showtime workshop later this week!
Discover the world of Lindy Hop! In this workshop, we will introduce you to partnered Jazz dancing. Music, groove, rhythms, self expression are on the menu!
This workshop is open to everybody! No prior dancing experience needed. No partner required. Come as you are!
In this workshop, we will introduce you to some flashy, high energy and iconic moves to spice up your Lindy Hop. This workshop is for you if you wish to take your Lindy Hop skills to the next level, to discover new moves and to work on your spotlight moves for a Jam Circle or a show! You should have some solid experience in Lindy Hop and Jazz dancing. You are able to dance comfortably to faster tunes or ready to take on a big challenge.
Exceptionally, we will not change partners in this workshop: you will need to sign up with a fixed partner whom you trust. You don’t have a partner? Make a call for a partner in our community chat or on social media or approach us to help you find one. This workshop is a journey. We will explore that groovy feeling of Jazz dancing as well as our uniqueness as a person and dancer. Let’s define our individual character and styling! While we may take inspiration from old styling, we will still work on our own personality as dancers. This workshop requires some solid knowledge of your basic Solo Jazz vocabulary.
Let’s learn another authentic routine from the Savoy Ballroom dancers! The Second Stops routine is an ensemble dancing routine (in other words, a choreography meant for several dance couples). It probably originated from the third generation of Savoy dancers and follows the First Stops Routine, which had been choreographed by Frankie Manning. Join this workshop if you have some solid basics in Lindy Hop and Charleston. Do you already know the First Stops Routine (maybe because we taught it last year)? No worries, the Second Stops will be new material for you!
If you wish to perform this routine with us, please make sure to join all parts of the workshop, including the final rehearsal on stage.
The Tranky Doo is a Solo Jazz routine that was choreographed in the 1940s by Frankie Manning for his performance group, the Congaroo Dancers. This routine is accessible for any dancer who has at least basic Solo Jazz experience. Learning this routine is a great chance to review some basics and to discover some fancy variations, transitions and breaks! Dancers with more experience will have the opportunity to refresh their knowledge of this routine and to work on their individual styling! Just have a look at these beautiful versions by Tops and Wilda, as well as by Al Minns, Pepsi Bethel and Leon James for some inspiration!
If you wish to perform this routine with us, please make sure to join all parts of the workshop, including the final rehearsal on stage.
Let’s get inspired by Mable Lee, aka the «Queen of the Soundies», a groundbreaking tap dancer, singer and performer from Harlem. In this workshop, we will break down Mable Lee’s beautiful dancing sequence from the 1943 soundie „Rhythmania“. This workshop is meant for our experienced Solo Jazz dancers, who have a solid Solo Jazz vocabulary and are ready for some fancy variations.
If you wish to perform this routine with us, please make sure to join all parts of the workshop, including the final rehearsal on stage.
Deep dive with us into the world of Solo Jazz and get ready, in just four hours, for your very first Jazz Show! In this workshop, everyone is welcome, regardless of your eventual, or eventually inexistant, prior dancing experience. We value our Beginners’ fresh energy, curiosity and readiness for showtime! We will work on a fun, but very accessible show with you and lead you to your first stage experience.
If you wish to prepare yourself a little bit, do not hesitate to join our «Solo Jazz - Back to Basics» workshop. If you’re a more experienced dancer, feel free to join and to rediscover Solo Jazz with fresh eyes.
If you wish to perform this routine with us, please make sure to join all parts of the workshop, including the final rehearsal on stage.
