Curious about Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz? Or, do you need a refresher? Team Jazz Break has got your back! This workshop is the perfect opportunity for absolute beginners to get a taste of the dance and warm up for an energetic party on Saturday night! Bring your friends, or come meet new ones, and dance the night away! No partner required.
Participation is free and does not include the party with live music. Reserve your party ticket through the registration system below, and enjoy the experience of a full night of jazz!
You have been Swing dancing for at least one year. You are at ease with basic Lindy Hop figures such as the Circle, Tuck Turn, Send out, Swing out and more. You have some basic, but solid Solo Jazz vocabulary. You can comfortably dance to slow and mid-tempo songs, but you might struggle with fast tempo. You have some understanding of Swing music and musicality. Yet it is challenging for you to focus on these while dancing.
In this track, you will have two Lindy Hop workshops as well as one Solo Jazz workshop. The Saturday party with live music by Alex B. Swing 4TET is included in this track!
You have been Swing dancing for at least 3 years and feel comfortable in Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz and Charleston. You live on the dance floor: you social dance as often as possible, you are travelling to international festivals, you may already be teaching (occasional) beginner classes in your local scene. You listen to Swing music whenever you can, you work on your musicality, you try to adapt your dancing to the style of the music, you risk to play with rhythms and syncopation, you work on your own personal styling. You like to work on your technique and connection with your dance partner. You’re ready for a challenge!
In this track, you will have two Lindy Hop workshops as well as one Solo Jazz workshop. The Saturday party with live music by Alex B. Swing 4TET is included in this track!
You have been Swing dancing for at least two years. You are at ease with your basic Solo Jazz vocabulary, such as the Shim Sham stomps, Tacky Annie, Suzie Q, Apple Jacks, Boogie back and forward, Boogie drop, Box step, Pivot, Rocks, Shorty George and more. You join the Shim Sham on every social dance and maybe know some variations of it already. Maybe you have already started to learn some other Solo Jazz routines such as the Tranky Doo or the Big Apple, although you might not yet be comfortable with the full routine.
In this track, you will have two Solo Jazz workshops. The Saturday party with live music by Alex B. Swing 4TET is included in this track!

Astrid
Astrid Akay is a theater directress and actress, dancing in Brussels with the Old Soulz and the Jazz Maniacs. Her central interest is the African American vernacular jazz dance, its history, culture and legacy today. How do we develop our own personal dance language while inheriting the powerful beauty and complexity of the original Lindy Hop? How do we keep the freedom of improvising, and at the same time work very specifically on original video clips? Also, how do we keep the meaning of dancing alive? Those are some of the questions that are driving Astrid to keep learning and exploring the jazz culture.
Sander
Sander has had a passion for the swing era, its music and aesthetic, since he was a teenager. He studied fashion technology and loves to create clothes for dancers in order to enhance their movements. He's part of the Brussels swing dance community and together with the Jazz Maniacs and The Old Soulz dance crew he works on constantly learning about jazz culture, analyzing video footage from the great African American dancers, drawing inspiration from them to keep authenticity and creativity central in his dancing. Early Bebop is the music he finds himself drawn towards the most.
This quartet was first put together in early 2025, and since then they kept swinging hard, bringing their unique energy to the Luxembourgish scene. They already made us dance all night long in past events, and we are can't wait to bring them back! Get ready to welcome once again the Alex B. Swing 4TET: Stefano Monaco (drums), Arthur Engel (doublebass), Simon Acquaviva (guitar/voice), and Alessandro Biasi (tenor saxophone).
