Bound by a deep friendship and shared passion for Jazz and Lindy Hop, Simon and Hagar have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to dance. They teach and train at their dance school Swinging Souls in Trier, Germany and at Festivals across Europe.
“To us, Lindy Hop and Jazz are far more than dance styles —they embody a rich culture that brings together music, movement, and human connection. In our classes, we invite dancers to explore the roots and history of this culture, to express themselves, and to connect with each other.”
Here’s an array of words you will hear from them in classes a lot: enjoy, allow yourself, express, feel free, try, embrace, commit, rhythm, connection, culture, be true to your feelings, listen, play.
Venues: Dance Factory (workshops); Bar Grand'Place (party! see below).
In this workshop we will take inspiration from the mastery of Chorus line dancers. Chorus lines were dance ensembles performing in nightclubs and shows. They also appear on some ‘soundies’, short musical video clips of the Swing Era.
This workshop is about Solo Jazz dancing, we will watch some soundies and draw inspiration from the Chorus line dancers. Join this workshop if you have at least some basic knowledge of Solo Jazz vocabulary. If you’re an advanced dancer, you’re welcome to join too: we will show you some intricate variations!
As dancers and teachers, Hagar and Simon are greatly inspired by old-time dancers. Iconic moments from dancers such as Frankie Manning, Mable Lee, Marie Bryant, and Al Minns have been captured in short clips and soundies. Hagar and Simon love their distinctive styles and movements and integrate them into their social dance time and again.
In this workshop, we will learn some of these iconic moves and styles, watch some old clips together, and learn more about the dancers who continue to inspire us today.
Join this workshop if you feel confident in social dancing and are familiar with basic figures such as swing outs, send outs, tuck turns, and changes of place
